My Philosophy

As many of you may know, I've been visiting a lot of blogs lately. To be honest this experience has been both interesting and harrowing in its own way. I see people who are depressed, happy, or more often a bit of both. Most of these posts are boring, mainly because I can somehow feel that this person was not being true to the audience. That they were somehow lying to their audience.

With the year (about) that I have been blog-hopping, I have discovered something cool. Every blog is different in its own special way, but there is one main ideology behind each successful one. The way to really connect with someone is to really be honest about how you feel. The more you connect to the reader, the more they will enjoy reading your post, no matter what.

Anyone can be a good writer. A good writer is constituted as having good grammar, good mechanics, nice structure. But that doesn't attract people. It's not what strikes people in the heart. People get honesty because they can emphasize with it. Good writing can definitely get you somewhere, but honesty really gets you to the point where you want to be in your writing.

And that is probably why I keep looking at blogs even though I'm so busy with other areas of life (classes, finding a job, etc). Sure, there's a lot of people with bad writing out there, but if there's honesty, there's something to be learned. It teaches everybody a lesson.

So this is my point. If I can express something that other people can just feel in them, then I believe I have succeeded. We all live in the same world, and I feel that my world is pretty much the same as yours. We're all the same, even though we give each other all of these labels to show how we are somehow "different". All of these differences are not important. Inside, we are the same person.

  1. It's about an emotional connection. That's the challenge, isn't it?

  2. Well said, but not everyone wants to be honest on the internet. Almost everyone has a double persona and an alias. It would be nice to know who I'm chatting with. Lol

  3. Thank you Gina for this post. How honest and true. It feels great to say/hear it out loud.
However, I find that most blogs are very honest. Blog writers really put their hearts out to the world, and I greatly respect that and enjoy it.
As you rightfully state, there is a lot to learn out there. A lot of insights into human nature. I feel the more we understand each other, the better we’ll get along.
Have a pleasant day and good luck on your job search.

  4. So true! Well said!! I am so honest with everything on my blog. Everything with what I'm feeling and going through. Sometimes, it's hard to explain, but I'm happy people get me. So many people hide behind the computer screens. Nope, not me! Well, use to kind of, but it wasn't me, so I stepped out of that! Thanks for coming by my blog!

  5. I like seeing honesty in the blogosphere, too. Blogs that seem to post nothing but cover reveals and such become forgettable, after a while. Not enough connection there.

  6. Hi Gina - I just need to feel comfortable with the blogs I follow ... and will drop any that frustrate me (I'll keep around for a while, then give up) ... I do comment back - but maybe only a superficial reply on their blog - I like to value my time. Well said though - cheers Hilary

  7. I agree that there are so many different blogs out there and often we really get to learn about others and certain parts of their lives. I do like feeling connected to people all over the world- and spend a lot of my time on blogs related to writing and reading (though I comment on many other types as well). Great post!

  8. There are many, many different types of blogs. Some do a great job at getting into the writing process, some are personal blogs, some are fan blogs, some are reading-orientated or film-orientated. Some are about art and music. I think people blog for various reasons. Sometimes, it's to connect. Sometimes, it's for marketing. It all depends.

  9. I fight constantly with trying to be my honest self. I feel I am only just now starting to make progress there. Putting oneself out for more than just my community to read is daunting, especially now when it seems my community is SO big on the web. Visiting from the March IWSG posting...
